It is said that necessity is the master of invention. This was true for Alan Ball, co-founder of ScrubBill, a tech integration company linking eCommerce platforms and couriers. Alan has founded two eCommerce businesses and after looking for a solution in the market found that a decent integration between eCommerce platforms and couriers was missing. So, what do you do as an entrepreneur? You start another company and solve the problem yourself.
Almost four years later, ScrubBill has grown 100-fold, providing a niche market solution.
The industry challenge
Accurate and deliverable addresses is one of the biggest issues for SA eCommerce platforms. ‘Last-mile delivery’ is tough for most couriers and bad addresses make this last mile tougher by decreasing overall delivery rates, and increasing the number of re-deliveries, which affects service level agreements with eCommerce clients. Bad address quality costs courier companies directly in wasted time and effort, and also reflects negatively on eCommerce stores for poor delivery performance, affecting customer experience.

There are approximately 40 new suburbs registered each month, plus alternative street and suburb names, which makes the national address database highly complex, according to Alan.
